LuuppiKyykkä 2026 preview and info

Content updated: 2/26/2026, 7:19 PM

LuuppiKyykkä is approaching fast and it will be played on 27.2. at the Polymeerihallit courts starting at 17:00!

Once again, we'll find out who among Luuppi's members are the toughest kyykkä players. Winners will of course receive fame and glory, but also some nice PRIZES. At the end of the day, everyone gets to warm up in the sauna.

It's also fun to throw good-natured shouts at the opposing team while playing, as long as they stay appropriate. Here are a few examples:

• You're holding the bat the wrong way!

• Pike! (a kyykkä term)

• Remember to smile!

• Throw full ones!

• The court is that way!

Tournament Structure

The tournament is played as academic team kyykkä among 16 teams. The group stage is played in four groups of four teams, where all teams play against each other within their group. Placement is determined by wins, or in case of a tie, by head-to-head results and then by average points per game. The top two teams from each group advance to the playoffs and the rest are eliminated. This means 8 teams advance to the playoffs, which continues in single-elimination format based on group performance.

The medal matches will aim to be streamed live on Luuppi's Twitch channel. More successful teams are recommended to bring warm layers and food, as you may spend several hours outside. Sausages and juice will also be available at the event, while supplies last. Thanks to TEK!

You can also follow the progress of the games in Luuppi's kyykkä group, where results will be updated as wins come rolling in.

Pre-Tournament Analysis

Röytisposse (RÖYTIS)

Arttu, Santeri, Aapo, Markus

A pre-tournament favourite for many — this year without any Oskaris, this team has a winning glow, as it includes a couple of last year's LuuppiKyykkä champions. They've also brought in new members to complement the original lineup. Their bat flies and often hits its mark, but will they find the right balance between "röytäminen" (a kyykkä move) and winning?

Kyykkijät (Kkjt)

Aleksi, Leevi, Vadim, Victor

Kyykkijät return with their familiar lineup, so great teamwork is surely guaranteed for this foursome. Although they didn't quite make it through last year, that may have sparked a whole new fire. This group certainly won't be lacking competitive spirit.

Gayjärven Gaymonsterit (GJGM)

Elina, Lina, Lotta, Xixi

The Gaymonsterit have been spotted on multiple courts throughout the winter, having competed in WCOK and MM-Kyykkä, among others. They're never short on joy for the game, but we'll see what effect the "joy juice" has on their performance. This team will deliver monstrous throws that send the kyykkä pieces flying.

ogaboga (oga)

Helmi, Enni, Viivi, Emmi

A new face at LuuppiKyykkä. Since no information has leaked to the editors, they may have several aces up their sleeve that no one can anticipate. Can you tell from the name that this team might bring some caveman-like aggression to their throws?

Suuren Kaavan Pelurit (SKP)

Antero, Toni, Juho, Liisa

SKP made their debut at the 2024 freshman kyykkä tournament, where they showed some success. Now the team is aiming for bigger prizes and glory. Although they have firepower, medals may be out of reach this time around.

Gambinakeijut (Geijut)

Freja, Iidalotta, Tommi, Olivia

A well-known name on the kyykkä fields, Gambinakeijut have found new wind beneath their wings. Tommi is making his kyykkä debut, bringing 4th generation tutor representatives to the team. These veterans of the kyykkä fields throw the bat with G-force.

But will ruby red shine alongside gold at the end of the day?

Kolme Maata Mutta Yksi Aivosolu (KMYA)

Jainil, Jan-Felix, Joona, Rawn

Now we're talking international! The editors have limited information about the players' experience, making a pre-analysis difficult. There's definitely surprise potential, and perhaps one shared brain cell is enough to get the job done. Then again, one brain cell might just be too few for this game.

Vanhat ja Väsyneet (VW)

Joni, Kuura, Lassi, Esa

Despite their name, Vanhat ja Väsyneet is made up of true veterans. The lineup features a strong opener, an excellent sweeper, and great game sense. Lassi in particular has been seen... This team will certainly be in the mix, competing for medal positions.

Hauki Gaga (HAGA)

Joose, Jerry, Susanna, Joona

Hauki Gaga are the 2024 freshman kyykkä champions! Since that victory the team has been playing actively, but hasn't quite made it back to the top. Perhaps this year the wind will turn and medals will be won. The team is strong, but they may run into older and more experienced opponents.

Mölkyn ammattilaiset (MÖL)

Arttu, Roope, Jape, Oskari

Despite their name, this team knows their kyykkä. Last year the team made it to the playoffs and although they didn't win a medal, these Mölkky Professionals weren't discouraged. This year's lineup has a fresh new look and now the team is aiming for the stars. There's real playoff potential here.

Sigmat (SIGMA)

Matias, Otso, Mikko, Jaakko

Sigmat have returned to the kyykkä fields with their original lineup and they've come to win. The team has been playing actively and last weekend went to Oulu's WCOK where they claimed silver in the open division — so hunger and desire to prove themselves is certainly there. These Sigmas could well turn out to be the tournament's alphas.

Pyssyt (Pyssyt)

Robin, Lauri, Aarni, Joona

No tournament is complete without freshmen. This freshman foursome brings new blood to the kyykkä fields — they've been representing Luuppi in futsal. But will futsal talent carry this team forward in this tournament? Will the bat fly as well as the ball?

Thomas League (TMSLG)

Thomas, Jecce, Toni, Niko

And here we go again. Clearly the strongest brand on the kyykkä fields, Thomas League has been playing in various kyykkä events and tournaments for several years. Experience is definitely not lacking here. The team is full of seasoned players, as the lineup has remained nearly unchanged over the years. It remains to be seen whether Thomas League will go further than the others this year.

Neljän joukkue erinomaisia ammattilaisia (NJEA)

Nina, Eetu, Jooa, Aldarien

You'll hear this team coming from afar — they're loud, probably more so than anyone else. The team features strong opening ability from Eetu, letting the others start firing away on an open field immediately. As a wildcard, there's extra reinforcement coming from Helsinki. When the cards are played right, this team has a lot of potential.

Laittoman salaista datailua kympiltä (LSD10)

Maiju, Tommy, Jaakko, Leo

More of that freshman enthusiasm. Again it's hard to predict how this team will do — they're still a mystery, illegally hiding their skill level, but perhaps they'll surprise on the field. This group could go any which way and we eagerly await to find out.

Editors' Pre-Tournament Favourites

After deliberation, these two teams appear to be the most likely winners:;

Vanhat ja Väsyneet

Sigmat

The kyykkä coordinators and writers wish everyone a wonderful tournament day — throw full ones.
