Announcement: Amendments to Luuppi’s Official Rules

Content updated: 11/21/2024, 1:25 PM

What and Why

During the fall, Luuppi’s board has been preparing amendments to the official rules to update outdated information and smooth out administrative processes. At an extraordinary association meeting on November 4th, the members approved the board’s proposed changes with some modifications. These amendments were officially approved by the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) as Luuppi's official rules on November 6th.

The Amendments

Several sections of the rules were updated with minor stylistic revisions for clarity and general updates were made to ensure relevance. Among other changes, the degree program names were updated to the current ones, and the reference to a notice board for meeting announcements was replaced with the association's website homepage, as Luuppi no longer has a notice board at the university.

Changes to the membership structure affect minor subject and support members. In the future, minor subject in Luuppi's fields will no longer grant eligibility for full membership in Luuppi, and the requirements for joining as a supporting member have been lowered.

In section 13, the board size was increased from a maximum of eleven to maximum of twelve members, allowing all core Luuppi teams to have their own responsible board member moving forward. Additionally, changes to the administrative structure include an update to section 20, which transfers the association’s signatory rights from specific designated positions to individuals chosen by the board. This adjustment will streamline administrative processes, especially for managing certain contracts.

Impact of the Changes

The most visible operational change is the increase in board size, as the association’s meeting will soon choose a new board - and for the first time, the association can decide on a board size of twelve members.

A few individual members will be affected by the changes to membership structure going forward. Those who previously joined as minor subject members, can be reassured that their lifetime membership remains valid regardless of the original membership criteria.

For those interested in becoming supporting members of Luuppi, the application criteria is now more flexible, making joining the association easier than before.
