Luuppi takes another digital step! (April fools 2025)

Content updated: 4/2/2025, 12:19 AM

Last year, our student organization made a bold decision to revamp our website. However, we have now decided to update the site back to its old version. The decision is driven by our members’ "unwavering love" for outdated, dysfunctional, and aesthetically questionable web pages.

"The new site was nice, but we started missing the 90s aesthetics, broken links, and the thrilling uncertainty of whether the page would even load," explains Anssi, Luuppi’s WWW/IT Rep

The web team promises that the upcoming website version will retain all the essential elements, such as the Comic Sans font, dull gray buttons, and navigation that requires three clicks to find the right page (if such a page even exists). The WWW/IT team also promises to add excitement to the browsing experience, as the beloved "404 Page Not Found" will make a spectacular return. Links leading to it have now been randomly scattered across the entire site.

Anssi continues: "We want to offer our members a true retro experience — something that current freshmen haven’t had the chance to witness. With this change, we aim for an authentic IT nostalgia trip."

Luuppi will also introduce a digital freshman pass on the old website, though it will merely consist of a checklist drawn in MS Paint. We have concluded that the new version was simply too modern. The redesign is still in progress, but this does not worry the web team, as their graphic design skills have already been proven through the creation of Old News covers — after all, skills improve only by doing!

The updates will be implemented today, April 1st, 2025, at 18:00 during the WWW/IT team meeting.
