September has been a busy month for the education policy team, and it has flown by at a speed that even photons can be jealous of. As the end of the month approaches, it's time to share with our dear readers what we've been up to.
Meetings and other fun leisure activities
During September, we have met with the staff and, under the circumstances, with each other. Here are some of the most important and interesting highlights from the otherwise rather dull meeting notes.
A cup of kopo 9.9.
This time, the student union TREY's monthly coffee reception for education policy reps featured a guest star, the experienced organizer Tiina "Tinsku" Mikkonen who currently serves on the board of our university. The topic of the training Tinsku gave was how to make education policy activities interesting for the ordinary student. The education policy team will put the amazing tips from the training to use immediately!
Computer science planning group 10.9.
The booking of appointment for individual study arrangements are totally blocked, although this certainly comes as no great surprise to anyone.
The selection criteria for next spring's joint application were also discussed, and no significant changes were made. However, the joint application will be significantly affected by the ongoing entrance examination reform, which is trying hard to unify and facilitate the current selection examination system, which is completely out of control.
Students with less than 45 credits in the last academic year may soon receive a love letter from Kela, everyone's secret admirer, in their inbox, as the credits have been sent for processing on 19th of September. So if your credits for the year doesn't quite reach the mythical 45 credit limit, it's worth digging out the compiled explanations for a possible Kela hearing.
MTT-TIE coffee 10.9.
This time there was a record number of participants, although admittedly most of them were freshers chasing after the lärpäke points. Our education specialists were quite disappointed when they spotted the amount of lärpäke towards the end of the coffees.
There was of course some actual bussines at the coffee, the most important of which was the renovation of the Sähkötalo on Hervanta campus, which will go on ad infinitum, significantly affecting access routes and the facilities of the associations on campus. Don't forget to read the University of Tampere's intranet, where you can find all sorts of fun and interesting stuff, including the really great wellbeing calendar!
Mathematics and statistics planning group 13.9.
The maths and statistics meeting also discussed the joint application of next spring, but don't call home just yet as the most exciting change will be the descriptive texts, keywords and job titles in studyinfo. So if you are collecting old studyinfo pages, you should archive it quickly!
ITC education steering group 18.9.
The least interesting meeting of the month on average reached its zenith this time with a discussion on course feedback. The main points were the importance of collecting feedback and the woefully low number of course feedbacks in the Norppa feedback system. So please hurry up and give as constructive feedback as possible on the courses you have attended!
Cup of kopo 23.9.
Wasn't this only once a month???? Well, this time we were able to treat ourselves to saludo and Fazer buns twice, as the August Cup of kopo was postponed to the beginning of September due to an illness. During the September bonus session, we worked on education policy communication and this time too, the education policy team was on the lookout for new magic tricks.
So, just sitting in meetings again?
No, no, while sitting in the bumper car classrooms of the language centre, the education policy team has also got lost in other things. First up is the rather poorly named Kopo x Tutor international event, the result of cooperation between multiple teams. You can find more information about this mysterious panel discussion from the event description.
Speaking of events, there's also an annual classic event coming up next month for freshers, the Minor Subjects Panel! For the delicious details, you'll again have to head to the depths of event description.
In addition to event preparation, we also had some nice email discussions with the staff about the capacity problems of the first lectures and the overlaps of the maths courses.
In anticipation of October's rock-solid events and the lizard brain stimulating reading experience, remember the most important thing, kopo@luuppi.fi!
