A new year has kicked off once again, and despite the cold weather, the education policy representatives are back from the holidays. The reps elected last autumn are continuing in their roles, and we’re here for you throughout the whole year. We gathered some updates and key points for the beginning of the year, so take a look below 👇
News from the education meetings
In the computer science planning group, we took a look at graduation statistics, which showed some positive development: CS students are now graduating on time more often. Well done! There was also discussion about the course offering. There are plans to move the teaching period for Introduction to Formal Specification (COMP.CS.420). The change isn’t certain yet, but it’s worth keeping in mind when planning your studies for next year.
On the mathematics and statistical data-analysis side, the staff has once again prepared a proposal for the assessment criteria of Bachelor's theses and Master’s theses. These assessment criteria will be presented for approval in the faculty council in February. In addition, the staff has made preliminary plans for next year’s course implementations.
Thesis weekend continues
The university’s thesis weekend ('opinnäyterupeama') will also continue this spring. This weekend-long workshop gives you the chance to work on your thesis together with other students. You’ll get peer support, good discussions, and even free breakfast.
The thesis weekend has received great feedback from students, and we definitely recommend giving it a try if you feel like you need an extra boost of motivation for your thesis! You can read more about the workshop here.

Luuppi also has social policy representatives for 2026. You can reach them at sopo@luuppi.fi. Feel free to message them about anything related to wellbeing, housing, or coping in general. Throughout the year, they’ll also share important and current updates related to social policy.
A happy ending note
Thanks for taking the time to read through these useful ramblings. The beginning of the year is still quite dark, but the days are getting longer, and it’s only 70 days until Wappu! Remember that it’s perfectly okay to feel tired, and you don’t need to deal with the winter gloom alone. The university also offers support services if you feel you need them. Wishing you a great start to the year from the education policy team! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
